The Hangman Comics #4 Featuring The Hangman Kari A Therrian MLJ Magazines Inc 9781505229615 Books

With this fourth issue of "The Hangman Comics," the gifted Bob Fujitami (a.k.a. "Bob Fuje") becomes the main artist on the title character's trio of tales, and his work still holds up today. What he thought of the previous issues, in which our no-nonsense hero fought buck-toothed "Japs," we'll never know, but the presence of this top-flight Japanese-American draughtsman on these atmospheric stories certainly makes a statement: talent will out. Next to Shield-Wizard Comics, this was arguably MLJ Comics' best super-hero book -- for adults. Once The Hangman is on the case, it's the gallows for any miscreant who takes a life. Paul Reinman, who would later draw the revivals of MLJ Comics' characters in the late '60s super-hero titles published by Archie Comics and Mighty Comics, adds two stories per issue featuring "The Boy Buddies" (The Shield's sidekick, Dusty the Boy Detective, and The Wizard's tag-along, Roy the Super Boy). As usual with comics of this vintage, the color registration is off with the masks especially bleeding into the wrong spaces. But this can only be rectified by an expensive process of removing the color and then re-coloring the stories, which would double the cost of these books for collectors. I'm fine with them looking like the originals. Thanks to UP History and Hobby, you can buy these books through Amazon and not feel cheated.
